Reed & Nick’s Grunge Photoshoot in Arizona

Do you need to be engaged/eloping/getting married to have a great couples photoshoot? Absolutely not. In fact, doing photoshoots with couples just to celebrate their love for one another is one of my favorite things to do.

Reed and Nick wanted to do a grunge photoshoot together. Something that really tapped into their essences as individuals and as a couple. They were up for anything, which was great because I could let inspiration take the wheels and guide us along.

After driving around Mesa, Arizona, we found an abandoned parking lot that just spoke to me. And since Reed and Nick were all about seizing the moment, we went for it. I was obsessed with the end result.

Recipe for a Grunge Photoshoot

All you need for a stellar grunge photoshoot is one part attitude, two parts location and lighting, and one part energy from the space. Couples photoshoots like this can be tricky, and everyone has to be on the same page. Luckily, we had everything we needed for an awesome, gritty experience.

Reed and Nick were so into poses, and I loved everything about it. They knew what they were doing, and felt really comfortable in front of the camera. For an abandoned lot in Mesa, AZ, this place had a lot of visual interest.

Staying Grounded

We got some really cool shots close to the ground, really exploring the earthy feel of the setting. I also got a bunch of shots angled upward, which made for some dramatic shots of Reed and Nick together. Reed had one really great shot where she wore some “tighty whities”, relaxed fit jeans and chunky black platforms.

I also managed to capture several shots of these two together that felt really sensual and deep. Truly, it was just a matter of getting out of their way and letting them explore. The moment felt insulated somehow, even with the world going on around us.

I had such a great time with Reed and Nick, and we all agreed this grunge photoshoot was a big success. Plus, it’s not every day that you connect with a couple who’s down to hang out in an abandoned lot.

Sunsets and See You Soons

Getting an opportunity to shoot something like this is something I live for. Surrendering to the present to see what kind of magic it might provide. I loved working with Reed and Nick, and I was thrilled that the stars aligned for this shoot.

If you’d like to connect for a couples shoot, I’d love to chat with you.
