Whitney + Brian's Wedding At Her Dad's House
Intimate and intentional weddings always speak to me. It’s easy to get wrapped up in the dreams and visions of others. And it’s fun to work with them on those visions and dreams. For Whitney and Brian, their visions and dreams centered around a wedding at her dad’s house.
I helped however I could. We had a lot of communication leading up to the event. I could tell Whitney really appreciated that. I’m always happy to do it since it makes everything go so much smoother.
Making It Meaningful
Whitney wanted every part of the wedding at her dad’s house to be meaningful. It was already going to be a creative wedding since she makes ceramics and Brian plays music. Here’s her Instagram.
She wanted her wedding to be very personal to her, and her dad’s home was one of her favorite places. So, it made sense to have her wedding at her dad’s house.
But what was really meaningful was how Whitney made her wedding at her dad’s house personal for everyone else too. She made napkin holders for each of her guests and brought lots of candle holders she’d also made to the wedding. It’s already stressful enough planning a wedding, but she found time and energy to make this happen. Her guests won’t forget their experience. I won’t either.
And about Brian playing music? Yeah, he absolutely got up on stage and played some songs for everyone at the reception.
I’m lucky I got to see a wedding where the bride and groom took as much care of everyone else as they did them. I felt even luckier seeing all that love and care being given back to the bride and groom. During speeches, it ended up turning into a popcorn style, and everyone was just going around talking about their favorite memories with Whitney and Brian. You could just tell how intimate and curated their friend circle is.
The Wedding At Her Dad’s House
I’ve barely even gotten to the wedding at her dad’s house, ha. Whitney and Brian’s wedding at her dad’s house took place under a willow tree. The willow tree was meaningful too, since it was the tree Whitney’s dad planted for her when she graduated high school. It was what she asked for as a graduation present. Can she get any better?
Brian deserves a mention too. He had to agree to all of this, but his willingness to make a wedding so meaningful for his future wife showed how much he loved Whitney.
The tent for the reception was a nice touch too. And everyone really knew how to have a good time. Laughing, dancing, sharing stories, and just being there with one another. Sometimes as a photographer, you don’t have to do anything more than take a step back and capture what’s happening, no further involvement needed from you. That was cool to be a part of too.
All Good Things End
Even a meaningful wedding like Whitney and Brian’s has to end sometime. I guess that’s a part of what makes something meaningful, too, the fact that it’s only temporary. The tent will have to come down, the people go home, and so on and so on.
But photos help it last a little bit longer. Maybe you’re looking for some of your own. If you are, let me know. I’d love to communicate just like I did with Whitney and Brian, too.
